Where do Nahavand carpets come from? Located in the Malayer region, the city of Nahavand in Iran is famous for its considerable carpet production. Nahavand (or Nehavand), whose name means "city where bowls are made," thus owes its name to this craft, with "nah" meaning city and "vand" meaning bowl.

How are they made? Carpets made in Nahavand have symmetrical knots, a single weft, brown or gray, on a cotton warp. The back of the carpet is ribbed, with its light warp clearly visible.

What are the patterns of a Nahavand carpet? The very pleasant design is a stylized interpretation of the medallion pattern, with rounded rosettes and in the field a myriad of rosettes connected by straight stems. Blue and red are the most used colors for the field and the medallion. As for the border, it is decorated with a series of rosettes and palmettes alternating with zigzagging flower bouquets.
