Where do Gashgai rugs come from?
The Gashgai people were originally Turkish-speaking nomads who lived in Fars, which is the Shiraz region of Iran. This is why their rugs are often referred to as Turkish Shiraz rugs. Today, however, many Gashgai have settled in the villages of the region.

How are they made?
The Gashgai have nonetheless maintained their tradition of knotting their rugs on horizontal nomadic looms. During the warmer months, some women can be seen working in the garden or courtyard in front of their homes.
