Where do they come from? At the time, Tabriz rugs were produced in the grand tradition of Persian art with sumptuous floral decorations inspired by miniatures from the Tabriz school, which was then the capital of the Persian Empire. It is not possible to compare current production with ancestral production, as the latter is quite uneven. Nevertheless, there are some private workshops that make genuine efforts to maintain the customs of ancestral production and thus provide rugs of great finesse.

How are Tabriz rugs made? Woven with shiny, strong wool, finely hand-spun by nomadic women of the region, Tabriz rugs are very durable. Indeed, the fine velvet wool they are made of does not flatten; this is why good Tabriz rugs are expensive, but exceptional quality often justifies the price.

How to recognize authentic Tabriz rugs? Regarding the decoration of these rugs, one often finds 17th-century designs with numerous innovations. In some rugs, for example, animals are arranged in lush landscapes in the style of ancient miniatures. The Herati motif is also found on the central medallions; the field remains plain but sometimes it is filled with bushes and flowers.
